Restorative Yoga Based in Brooklyn

In our busy lives today we often push ourselves to the limit at the expense of our physical and mental health. It’s estimated that 75-90% of all doctor visits are for stress related aliments or complaints.  Restorative Yoga helps us to relax our body and mind deeply so restoration can take place.  During deep relaxation our blood pressure reduces, heart rate and breathing slows, muscle tension reduces, and all organ systems benefit.  It is and essential part of our wellbeing.  We use a number of props to maximize the restorative benefits.

What are the benefits?

  • Deeply relaxes the body.
  • Stills the mind.
  • Improves capacity for healing and balancing.
  • Balances the nervous system.
  • Boosts the immune system.
  • Enhances flexibility.
  • Develops qualities of compassion and understanding toward others and self.
  • Enhances mood states.

Pranayama and Breath work

Using the breath as a focus can be a very simple way to calm the body and mind as well as connect the two. I teach various breathing practices designed to stimulate the parasympathetic system, countering the overstimulation our bodies and mind go through when in times of stress. Using the breath in this way allows energy to flow and move around the entire body. The effect can be energizing, relaxing and healing.
